Lawn Care Tips

April is a key month for lawn care—grass is actively growing again, but it still needs the right support after winter.
🌱 Start Regular Mowing
- Begin mowing once the grass is actively growing
- Keep blades higher than usual (don’t cut too short early in the season)
This helps avoid stressing the lawn while it’s still recovering.
🌿 Feed Your Lawn
- Apply a spring lawn fertiliser to encourages lush, green growth and strengthens roots
- Best applied after mowing and when rain is expected (or water it in)
🌼 Tackle Weeds & Moss
- April is ideal for treating:
- Dandelions
- Clover
- Moss patches
- Use a combined weed & feed product or treat problem areas separately. Acting now prevents weeds from spreading later in summer.
💧 Water Wisely
- Lawns usually get enough rain in April (especially in the UK), but:
- Water during dry spells

🌱 Repair Bare Patches
- Rake out dead grass and loosen the soil
- Add fresh grass seed or patch repair mix
- Lightly cover with compost and keep moist
👉 April warmth + moisture = ideal growing conditions.
🍃 Rake & Scarify (Lightly)
- Remove thatch (dead grass layer) and moss buildup
- Improves airflow and allows nutrients to reach roots
- Don’t overdo it—gentle raking is enough this early in the season
🌬️ Aerate Compacted Soil
- Use a garden fork or aerator to spike the lawn
- Helps drainage and root growth
- Especially useful if your lawn gets heavy foot traffic
